Team Canteen News!
On Thursday 18 March, Team Canteen held an incredibly successful Taco Day!
We made a record 133 tacos on the day (as well as other lunches) with delicious fresh ingredients and the tomato salsa being a major hit!
In the lead up to Taco Day we held a colouring competition – Congratulations to Lola Rm 18, Aisha Rm 3 and George Rm 4! We hope you enjoyed your $2 voucher to spend in the canteen!
Harmony Day was also a big success in the canteen with over 100 bento boxes ordered for both students and their families!
Both days would not have been a success without the extra help from our wonderful parent helpers both on the days and leading up to them!
The school’s year 7s are a vital part of how the canteen operates on a daily basis. Especially on busy special days like ‘Taco Day’ or ‘Harmony Day’. They always come ready to work hard and use their initiative when volunteering. They handle the fast paced and changing nature of our canteen with ease and help in all areas of the process including food preparation, packing lunch boxes, stock rotation, cash handling and customer service. They are also super kind and patient when they help supervise the younger students. They have also taken complete ownership for the set up and running of the canteen slushie bar on Fridays with great success – on Taco Day they made over 120 slushies during the lunch time!
The Year 7 helpers are an absolute asset in the canteen and are a credit to their teachers, school and of course their families!
Keep an eye out for more special days next Term!
Why do you like to give up your time to volunteer in the canteen?
Ava: I like to help everyone out. It is fun and feels good to offer to lend a hand. I get good work experience for café work. It has been great to make friends with all the adults that work at the canteen.
Skylar: Because it is fun and handling money gives me good experience for working in the future. Working with friends is fun and I love the dance parties with the canteen staff.
Nicolas: It is a good learning experience and it will be good when I’m older because cooking things and serving people are useful skills that can help me get a job in the future. It’s lots of fun!
Vinny: It’s fun to meet new people and make more friends. I enjoy cooking and it helps me to get great work experience. I want to be a gourmet chef when I’m older.
