Successful Grassroots Grant Application

Our school vision, to create a community culture of inclusion, connection and sustainability, just received a huge boost! Towards the end of last year, Brian Schiller applied for a Grassroots Grant to develop a project; ‘Kaurna Walk – Community Sustainability Garden’. This will enable us to develop practical and meaningful projects that directly link with the school curriculum that provide ‘hands on’ experiences for our students.

The Grassroots Grant, of almost $10,000 will help enable student collaboration on our sustainability investigations and projects, specifically with our Local Community Project. This involves the revegetation of the school grounds; specifically, the development of a ‘Kaurna Walk – Community Sustainability Garden’ in partnership with local Kaurna educators and Green Adelaide. Murray Porter has won the leadership position of Environmental Education Coordinator for 2021 and will be helping to support this and other sustainability projects throughout the school. The Grassroots Grant ties in perfectly with our long term plans to fully embed sustainable practices within our curriculum.

We understand that community collaboration and partnerships, along with practical contributions to projects, is fundamental to raising awareness and building knowledge to empower students to engage and take responsible action. We look forward to working with families and local community organisations to further build this into the teaching and learning at Seacliff Primary School.
