SUPER STEM IN ROOM 10
For the past few weeks, Room 10 has been looking at the behaviours of natural disasters, and how to prevent loss of life by making models of houses that can withstand them. We have been doing this to help us understand how natural disasters work in other countries.
We started with the planning sheet which had a few suggestions about what we would need to consider when we made the model. This included the features that would protect the house from natural and unnatural disasters.
Each student designed their own house and then they created it, with some help from parents, grandparents, siblings, and some without. The models were created from everyday items; for example, cardboard, paper, pop sticks and recycled items. After building the actual house we started decorating them with paint and other things we had at home. We had to label all of the features that we included in our houses, such as underground bunkers, domes, and wheels.
We also had to explain in writing, exactly why we made the decisions that we made in our models. We would like to thank Colin for coming in to help us organise our ideas twice during this process.
Overall, the majority of the class thought this was a brilliant learning experience as we all learnt something new. This is what some of us thought:
