Seacliff Primary Community Sustainability Focus, Oaklands Wetlands

At the end of last term, a group of around 22 volunteers from our school community, (parents, grandparents and guardians), supported their children / grandchildren in being trained in environmental care by Education Officer, Jeremy Gramp, from Green Adelaide. Seacliff Primary’s Sustainability intern, Amber Mausolf, also attended.

These adults then offered their expertise while supporting their children to lead investigations at Oaklands Wetlands.  The trained Student Leaders led their classmates from Rooms 6, 10, 16 and 17 to work through a range of environmental observations and technology activities in this beautiful outdoor environment.  Activities included testing wetlands waters for salinity and turbidity, fishing for, identifying and releasing macro-invertebrates, observing residents of bird boxes, undertaking bird surveys, designing viewing platforms, studying local plant species and designing refuges for creatures of the wetlands.

This focus was part of Seacliff Primary’s ongoing Sustainability priority and was related to the upcoming development of the school’s Sustainable Garden, which will be worked on in early 2022.
