School Values at Seacliff
In 2019, the school began a process of identifying the core values for our Seacliff Primary community. This involved students, staff, families and the Governing Council providing ideas and input. We were trying to bring together, in a meaningful way, the kinds of qualities we hope to see in the children as they move into adolescence and then on into their adult lives. The ‘Core Values’ were identified as COMMUNITY, ACHIEVEMENT, RESILIENCE, RESPECT, INNOVATION and INTEGRITY.
Drawing on links to the Health & PE and Keeping Safe: Child Protection Curriculum several teachers developed a curriculum planner resource to support how these values can be linked to other areas of the curriculum. The school community art pieces are a means to support and promote these values in the way that we live our lives from day to day.
Our first two values words came to life before our eyes with the murals painted on the walls either side of the undercroft.

In 2020, through a Governing Council initiative, we were able to create some fantastic artwork to display our school values. This began in Term 1 with some street art on the large pillars of the undercroft area. The artwork, completed by Azzurro, included two of our school values; RESILIENCE and INTEGRITY.
During Week 8 and 9 of Term 3, a range of Junior Primary students were involved in placing their handprint on the lettering of the word COMMUNITY, our next ‘value’ artwork project. An ochre colour theme was chosen to represent an indigenous perspective and the sky, sun, sand and sea of Seacliff. The students very much enjoyed getting their hands painted and placing them on the lettering. The lettering has now been coated in an anti-graffiti seal and has been hung along the fence line outside of the Junior Primary playground.
Lettering of the school value INNOVATION was cut and students from the middle and upper primary classes drew art work that represents what innovation means to them. The artwork selected and drawn on the lettering was voted on by the students. To appreciate the outstanding quality of this artwork, you need to get ‘up close and personal’ with the lettering to be found on our Barwell Avenue fence-line. Thank you to the Governing Council ‘Values Committee’ the staff and parents for bringing this to fruition….Oh and thank you to our many talented student artists for such fine mini art pieces!
