Room 1 loves ‘Buddy Activities’!
This term, Room 1 (Year 2’s) and Room 13 (Year 6’s) have been working together as ‘Buddies’. We have been focusing on our school value of community and building a positive and inclusive school environment. Our Year 2 class LOVE buddy activities because they feel valued and supported by their older peers, whilst having a lot of fun!
As a part of Reconciliation Week 2020, our classes learnt about why reconciliation is important and discussed the significance of all belonging, regardless of our differences. We completed some activities designed to increase our awareness and understanding of Indigenous cultures.
We focused on how the Indigenous culture used dot paintings to share their stories. Together with our Year 6 buddies – we created our own!
With their partner, students used their hands joining to symbolise connection and togetherness. We discussed the colours that the Indigenous people used and the association with the earth, including brown, red, yellow, and shades of green and blue. They then painted a background, which represented the Earth, in their own way.
We hope you enjoy our artwork!
