Green Adelaide Youth Environment Leader Program
On Monday 22 March, Skye, Jordan, Lyla, Maddy and Eve went to Southern Montessori School to participate in the Green Adelaide Youth Environmental Leaders Program. Four other southern schools were represented.
The day consisted of a series of environmental activities. After the ice-breaker we did a ‘future vision’ activity, which involved thinking about how our actions today has an effect on the future.
Then we did an activity to measure our green footprint and how we can make positive changes to help the environment. After recess we built bee hotels out of bamboo and taped them together. It was fun to learn about native bees and their behaviours.
Later we went bird watching along the creek and tried to identify different bird species.
Before lunch we spent time planning a project that we will under-take back at school. The project will involve the creation of a Kaurna sustainable garden. This project will also involve students from across the school.
Finally, we made a pledge relating to the project. We really enjoyed connecting with nature and sharing ideas with other like-minded students. What we love about being Environmental leaders is that it comes with a responsibility to educate others.
