Flinders University Pre-service teachers setting a high standard at Seacliff
To play our role in assisting in the development of high quality teachers for future generations, Seacliff Primary School has signed a partnership agreement with Flinders University, which allows us to access and mentor pre-service teachers currently studying there. Depending on the year level of study, preservice teachers work in classes for up to 8 weeks. In 2020 we have five final year students working from Reception/Year 1 to Year 7. Each of these students completed 10 lead in days during Term 1 and are now undertaking a six week block of teaching. During this time they will take responsibility for planning, delivering and reporting on the majority of the curriculum. With the support of their mentor teacher, a university liaison and school co-ordinator, they will be collecting and documenting evidence of achievement against the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.
My name is Caleb Cook and I am excited to have been given an opportunity at Seacliff Primary School to develop my professional skills and knowledge as part of my Flinders University teaching degree. Whilst I am extremely fortunate that Rhianna Lucas has agreed to mentor me, I’m also looking forward to learning from the fantastic children in her class. Our first week back after the holidays was an exciting time for all and the way with which the children eagerly jumped back into their learning was an absolutely wonderful experience to be a part of. I look forward to being able to watch the students continue to grow and would like to express my gratitude to the parents, students and staff for the way I have been accepted into the community during my stay so far.
Hi. My name is Mikaela Kelly and I feel very fortunate to be on my teaching placement at Seacliff Primary School. I am enjoying working with the fantastic Year 3/4 students in Room 6. Ruth Cameron and Erica Flato-Beckett are my mentor teachers and I greatly appreciate the support and guidance they are providing me. With much of our teaching being moved online, I have been adapting my teaching to cater for students working from home and students at school. I have been able to put my ICT skills into action by creating short videos of myself teaching to support our students learning from home. This unique teaching experience has introduced me to different resources and ways of teaching which I had never considered before. I’m greatly looking forward to what the rest of my teaching placement at Seacliff Primary School will hold.
My name is Patrick Leek and I am a 4th year education student at Flinders University. I am grateful to be working alongside Leah Watkins teaching year 6’s in room 13. Ever since primary school, I have desired to become a teacher. My passion for learning and inspiring students through knowledge has fuelled this ambition of becoming an educator. My goal through my degree is to become an upper primary teacher and to walk in the footsteps of my year 6/7 teacher who paved the way for my interest in education. I look forward to my experience here at Seacliff Primary and to improve on my practise as well as build stronger relations amongst the students and within the community.
Hello, my name is Sam Dennis and I am the student teacher in room 14 with Murray Porter and his year 7 class. I am interested in all things sport and I love going on walks. I am in my fourth year at Flinders University studying primary teaching. I am majoring in Physical Education and Maths. This is my final placement and I will be here for the first six weeks of Term 2. This is my first time working at Seacliff Primary, and I am very excited to be doing my placement here. I will be hoping to graduate at the end of the year and hopefully have my own class in the near future.
Hi there! My name is Negin Iranmehr and I’m a fourth year pre-service teacher from Flinders University. I am currently completing final placement of six weeks with the Year 7 students in Room 15. I am looking forward to planning and implementing rich learning tasks, which spark the student’s interest and allow them to unleash their talents and potentialities.
When I am not at university or work, I love spending time with my friends and family, going to the beach and travelling. Having been from the local neighbourhood myself, I look forward to completing my final placement at Seacliff Primary School and establishing relationships within the school community.
