The time has come where preparations get underway for the end of year celebration night. Each class has used student voice to decide on what they would like to do for their end of year performance during celebration night.
Students in Rooms 0, 2, 4 and 5 in Japanese have been working hard on creating some dioramas about a place that they ‘visited’ on their virtual tour of Japan. The topics were: Kinkakuji (the golden temple), Sakura (cherry blossom trees), the Snow Monkey Park and Mount Fuji.
The students in Room 5 have been researching the Polar Regions to springboard their learning into other curriculum areas. This integrated approach leads to greater depth of knowledge and understanding.
The Year 4/5 students of Room 10 were excited to participate in their Science Week workshop on Tuesday, August 11th. The topic presented this year was ‘Physical Forces’, where students used magnets, pulleys, levers, inclined planes, grids and many more materials to investigate how mechanical machines are used to move objects. Below you will find some of the students’ articles explaining their Science activities.
Room 11 has been integrating the investigation of physical forces in Science with design technology. Over two lessons our task was to investigate a way to use air to create a thrust force in order to increase the speed of model cars.
On Monday, August 3rd, Room 17, 18 and 6 students walked to Seacliff Beach to plant native species in the sand dunes, with the help of councillor Clare Lindop and Alex Guat, Team Leader for Environment and Coast from Holdfast Bay Council. Trees were supplied via a grant through Trees for Life. Over time, the three classes will return to the planting site to water and weed around the plants.
Student Voice in Learning Leaders Riley and Nicolas recently observed a Numeracy lesson with year 3 & 4 students in Room 6.
The task began with a ‘number talk’ focusing on skip counting, starting points and direction of counting. The students were given a variety of open-ended tasks where they choose the ways in which they responded.
Room 3 students enjoy challenges. They think they are: fun, cool, 5 star, difficult, confusing, tricky, easy and hard too!
Room 18 embarked on a research project of the Murray River as part of our Humanities and Social Sciences Unit. We followed an inquiry focus, asking questions and conducting research on ‘Who uses the Murray River and how do they use it?’ and ‘What are the problems that are associated with the river?’.
