This term, Room 16 has been learning about Forces for our Physical Sciences Unit. Students are expressing an interest in this topic and enjoy sharing their own experiences and understanding of forces in and around their home and school environments.
Together, we have been learning how a force acts on an object to make it move in different directions. Some of these forces include ‘push’, ‘pull’, ‘gravity’, ‘resistance’ and ‘lift’.
At Reception and Year 1 level, making Maths fun and enjoyable is the basis for creating and supporting students to become Literate and Numerate at an early age.
Establishing a positive classroom culture paves the way for a very successful school year! During the first week of school we collaborated to develop our class contract. It is created around our 6 school values. As a class we unpacked what each value meant so students were able to develop a deeper understanding of each. Students worked in groups to create ‘we will’ statements for each value.
Room 5 children have also had an opportunity to be involved in small group cooking activities in Seacliff’s amazing new kitchen and GUESS WHAT!!!! Yes, they were the first to use it!
The students would like to thank the Fundraising Committee, and all school community members who participated in the various events that assisted in raising money for the kitchen.
SHAPES, SHAPES, SHAPES
Room 16 have had a busy end to the term, especially in maths. We have been learning about a range of 2D and 3D shapes and objects. Have a look at some of our learning.
We have been practicing recognizing two dimensional shapes around the classroom and using some of these shapes to create tangram pictures.
At the beginning of this term, the Year 3’s from Room 17 enjoyed our ‘Zoo Snooze’ camp. This event tied in with our Sustainability learning that has taken place throughout the year with Green Adelaide, Natural Resource Management, Trees for Life, Holdfast Bay Council and Aboriginal Community Education Officers.
The Year 4/5 students of Rooms 10 and 11 have been engaged in HASS studies related to the geography of the continents of South America, North America, Europe and Africa. The focus of this work was on natural and man-made land forms, populations, location, area and environmental change over time.
As a final assignment to demonstrate their learning, students created their own map of an imaginary country; including the many features that they had learned about throughout the Unit of Work.
Last term, Bunnings at Marion created a spring art competition for schools in our local area. Schools were invited to create a spring themed art work on a large piece of MDF board supplied by Bunnings. Room 2 and 5 worked together and Room 13 and 19. Room 2 and 5 created a Bunnings homestead artwork piece with some 3D aspects to it.
During Term 2 and 3, Mrs Litchfield and Mrs Watkins have been running girls’ wellbeing lessons with us. We have learnt about building positive relationships, treating others with kindness, being grateful and positive self-talk.
The Year 3 and the Year 3 and 4 classes from Seacliff Primary continue their collaborative focus upon Sustainability, with the input of parents, grandparents and community personnel.
On September 2nd, Jeremy Gramp, from Green Adelaide, trained twenty students from Rooms 6, 17 and 18 and around fifteen parents and grandparents in practices related to Sustainability.
