The children in Room 4 have been measuring length using non-standard units.
They know that whatever they choose to measure with, it must be the same size.
They also know that their measuring units need to be placed right next to each other without leaving any gaps.
The children enjoyed measuring many common classroom objects.
The Year 3’s of Room 17 designed their own NAIDOC Week posters and wrote about what the NAIDOC theme, ‘Heal Country’ means to them.
Cleve wrote:- “‘Heal Country’, to me, means that all other Australians need to understand and respect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their history. Their culture is very important”.
On Thursday the 16th of June we headed off to AFL Max for our school camp. We stopped at Apex Park for free time and a scavenger hunt before we arrived at our venue.
Our camp was focused on being a successful leader. We were involved in these 4 quarters:
· Q1: Be a better you
· Q2: Understand & advance your purpose
· Q3: Believe with passion
· Q4: Connect & communicate
Room 16 have been investigating procedures, what they are, where we can find them and how they are used in the real world. Here are some examples of where we have seen some:
Recipes.
Putting toys or furniture together.
How to play games.
How to make something.
Last term, Room 2 and Room 5 have been investigating Living and Non-Living things as a Science focus area of study.
The students have concentrated on sorting and classifying Living and Non-Living objects, and then identifying and comparing differences. They have also identified similarities and differences of living things, with particular attention to various insects and how they change over the course of their lifetime.
In Term 1, students began learning sea creatures in Japanese. They had lots of fun learning actions for each creature and we hope they shared some of these with you at home. Reception students explored the sentence structure “I like (animal).”
The students from Rooms 0, 3 and 4 have had great fun learning all about the creatures that live in, or close to, the sea. They have discovered many interesting facts about sea creatures. They got to go swimming with sea lions using virtual reality headsets. They met a porcupine fish, a Port Jackson shark, stingrays and seahorses.
The school was invited by the City of Holdfast Bay to be involved in the volunteer and education program, therefore the Year 3/4s of Room 10 and Year 4/5s of Room 11 took up the opportunity. The students were very enthusiastic to contribute to this worthwhile environmental project, which is in their own ‘backyard’. This integrates well with our school and local community environmental focus this year.
This semester Room 1 have been learning about the past and how daily life has changed due to the use of technology. Students have been comparing family life, toys, the way we communicate and transport.
We have had a lot of fun investigating the differences! Through reading books set in the olden days, watching short videos and researching, we have been able to design our own olden day toys and use our art skills to draw a horse and cart.
During the beach excursion, students investigated which types of plants and creatures survive in different zones closer to or further away from the water, examined soil samples from different zones, identified plants and creatures washed up on the beach, imaginatively created their own creature that was somehow adapted to survive in the area and designed their own anti-erosion invention.
