Room 4 – How long is it?
The children in Room 4 have been measuring length using non-standard units.
They know that whatever they choose to measure with, it must be the same size.
They also know that their measuring units need to be placed right next to each other without leaving any gaps.
The children enjoyed measuring many common classroom objects.
They particularly liked measuring the length of their shoe using different types of measuring units.
To finish off our work in this area, we went outside to measure objects with our feet. The bench was 8 of Maysa’s feet long. The volleyball net was 43 of Oliver’s feet long. The ramp up to the canteen was 21 of Ole’s feet long. The soccer goal was 33 of Lucy’s feet long.
The children absolutely loved measuring the length of the cricket pitch! It was 102 of Mrs Lancaster’s feet long and 22 children’s bodies long! (Their bodies aren’t all the same length of course, but it was certainly lots of fun!)
