NAIDOC Week 2021
NAIDOC Week, (National Aborigines and Islander Day Observance Committee), takes place during the school holidays, from the 4th to the 11th of July.
Classes at Seacliff Primary have been covering NAIDOC activities, ahead of this celebration.
Different classes have enjoyed such activities as finding out about and recreating the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags, joining in with online activities related to the theme of ‘Healing Country’, following up on student-initiated gardening projects, connecting with the perspectives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander authors by reading and studying their autobiographies and other ‘buddy class’ activities. A ‘Bush Foods’ excursion with Living Kaurna Cultural Centre, unfortunately, had to be cancelled, due to rain.
Recent events that have contributed to understandings of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures include whole-staff Culture Awareness training through Southern Cultural Immersion, anti-racism training for all staff members through Reconciliation SA, an interactive anti-racism workshop for some classes and a Reconciliation excursion.

In preparation for NAIDOC week, Room 5 children have been investigating the importance of nature and the land on which we stand on today. Students have been participating in activities such as nature weaving. We have been using natural resources such as leaves and sticks to create pieces of art. Room 5 children have also watched videos and had class discussions about the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
