ROOMS 0, 3 & 4 – Marine Discovery
The students from Rooms 0, 3 and 4 have had great fun learning all about the creatures that live in, or close to, the sea.
They have discovered many interesting facts about sea creatures.
The children thoroughly enjoyed their excursion to the Marine Discovery Centre at Henley Beach.
They got to go swimming with sea lions using virtual reality headsets. They met a porcupine fish, a Port Jackson shark, stingrays and seahorses. The children also learned how to keep our oceans and beaches healthy. Kano, an Aboriginal Cultural Educator, shared his knowledge about how the Kauna and Narrunga people lived around the beaches.
The children loved fossicking for all sorts of things on the beach. They then had to sort what they had found into groups.
Rooms 0 and 4 also visited Kingston Beach. The children loved exploring the rockpools and they were so excited to find crabs, sea-snails and tiny fish.

Photo 1: An octopus has a brain in each of its 8 legs and one in its head! It can change colour and make itself really small or really big.
Photo 2: The dad leafy sea dragon looks after the eggs on his tail. The sea dragon is the sea emblem for South Australia.
Photo 3: A crab has 10 legs. It can see all around easily because it has eyes on stalks.
Photo 4: There are many communities under the sea where sea creatures help each other.
Photo 5: The hermit crab and anemone are good friends. They look after each other.
Room 3 comments – At Henley Beach
Photos 9 + 10: Room 3 students really enjoyed beachcombing and sorting their treasures which they left behind for others to enjoy.
Photo 11: The students learned about Aboriginal culture with Kanu.
