ROOMS 10 and 11 – Humanities & Social Sciences (HASS)
The Year 4/5 students of Rooms 10 and 11 have been engaged in HASS studies related to the geography of the continents of South America, North America, Europe and Africa. The focus of this work was on natural and man-made land forms, populations, location, area and environmental change over time.
As a final assignment to demonstrate their learning, students created their own map of an imaginary country; including the many features that they had learned about throughout the Unit of Work.
Following are some comments and photos of the students’ work.
Hello, this is my map of ‘Cha Cha Land’, a part of our assignment. First, we drew an outline of the map and listed natural or manmade features in our country. On the page we added a rosette and key to identify our drawings, I personally think this was a fun project and enjoyed making the map.

My country’s name is ‘GUCCI’. On my front page I wrote all the information about my county like; population, floral emblem, flag, I also information about me on it. The map of GUCCI’ included mountains, lakes, dunes, a city, a forest, and a desert. We also included a scale, compass and places people could live. On the back page I wrote all of my country’s features and why they were useful for the people who live on Gucci (for example: Butterfly Forest- to provide resources (like wood for houses and leaves for paper).

The name of my island was ‘Ratna’ and it had lots of features like caves, rivers, seas and cliffs. I made names up, some of them relating to me, like the Bella Ranges and Rose River because my middle name is Rose. On the back we explained why we picked those features and how they would affect the people in our countries. We also included a key to guide the person who is reading it.

My country was ‘Ningle’ and this is the map of it. I spent around 5 lessons on it. We did a draft copy and then a good copy. Things we needed to include were a scale, compass and a key as well as a continent that it is a part of. Mine was Flafist.
